About the Center

The Vietnam Veterans of America operates the Ozarks Area Veterans Assistance Center in Springfield, MO which offers assistance to all U.S. military veterans in Southwest Missouri.

Veterans are assisted with VA compensation and pension claims, GI Bill education benefits, vocational rehabilitation programs, military records retrieval, burial and memorial services, acquiring military decorations, and entrance into the VA health system provided by VA outpatient clinics and hospitals.

By working with other local, county, state and federal agencies, veterans and their family are provided a full spectrum of social services.

The educational facilities available in Southwest Missouri are stressed to any Veteran being advised in the use of their Gl Bill education and VA Vocational Rehabilitation benefits.

Working with local, state, and national legislative bodies, the Center ensures that veterans receive the services that they require and the recognition that they deserve.

Service Officers of the different Veterans Service Organizations are trained at the Center to insure that claim development in southwest Missouri meets a high standard.

Families of veterans are assisted in researching military unit histories so they may discover what their loved ones experienced while serving in the military.

The Center is cooperating with Missouri State University and the Library of Congress on a project to record the wartime experiences of area veterans.

Working with the St. Louis Veteran's Center and local mental health professionals, counseling services are being provided to veterans who are suffering from war related trauma.

A positive economic impact is produced by advocating veterans' conventions and reunions in Southwest Missouri.
